Pavitra Rishta Actress Priya Marathe Dies at 38 After Cancer Battle
Actor Priya Marathe, best remembered for her role in the hit television drama Pavitra Rishta and her work in several Marathi films, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was 38.
Reports suggest that Marathe had been fighting cancer for the past year. According to Maharashtra Times, the actress was under continuous treatment, but her health continued to decline despite medical efforts. She breathed her last at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai.

Priya Marathe’s Remarkable Career
Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Priya Marathe became a familiar face in both Marathi cinema and television. Her breakthrough came with the role of Varsha in the hugely popular soap opera Pavitra Rishta, which made her a household name. She went on to impress audiences with her portrayal of Vidya Bali in Kasamh Se and Jyoti Malhotra in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, both under the banner of Balaji Telefilms.
Beyond television dramas, Priya Marathe proved her versatility as both an actor and a stand-up performer, captivating audiences with her screen presence and lively personality. Her diverse body of work featured notable shows like Char Divas Sasuche, Tu Tithe Mi, Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji, Ya Sukhano Ya, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, among others. She also showcased her comedic talent in the first season of Comedy Circus.
In 2023, Priya stepped away from the Marathi serial Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe due to health reasons and gradually distanced herself from the public eye. During this period, many speculated that she was undergoing cancer treatment, especially as she had also become inactive on social media.
